Thomas Hutchinson, a native of Toms River, NJ, began trombone studies with his father at age 7 and continued at the Juilliard Pre-College with Metropolitan Opera trombonists David Langlitz and Steven Norrell. Upon graduation from The Juilliard School, he taught on faculty of L’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Italy, where he also served as Assistant Principal trombone of the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. Upon returning to New York City, he soon joined the Naumberg Award-winning Saturday Brass Quintet and many contemporary and chamber ensembles around the NYC tri-state area. In addition to performing with the Met Orchestra since 1994, American Ballet Theater since 2013, he has also held the position of principal trombone of the New York City Opera since 2002. He has performed with the New York Philharmonic, New York City Ballet, the Philadelphia Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and many other NYC ensembles. He has taught at Princeton University, Montclair State University, Juilliard Pre-College, and has been a member of the trombone faculty of New York University since 2004. Mr. Hutchinson lives in Brooklyn, NY with his girlfriend, pianist Martha Locker.
