Angela Wee, Principal Associate Concertmaster

New York-born violinist Angela Wee is the Principal Associate Concertmaster of The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

Celebrated for her expressive artistry and commanding energy, Angela has performed in major venues around the world such asthe BBC Proms at Royal Albert Hall, Suntory Hall, Seoul Arts Center, Philharmonie de Paris, Palacio Euskalduna, Auditorio de Baluarte, Lutosławski Polish Radio Concert Hall, and Weiwuying Concert Hall. As a soloist, she has toured extensively throughout Europe with orchestras from Bilbao, Pamplona, Poznań, Warsaw, and London. In 2022, she joined the London Symphony Orchestra on tour to Luxembourg, Japan, and Korea under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle.

Angela is a prizewinner of numerous international competitions. She was awarded second prize at the 2015 Sarasate International Competition in Pamplona, where she performed with the Navarra Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Antoni Wit. In 2012, she was a finalist at the Menuhin International Violin Competition, and has also garnered top prizes at the Cooper International Violin Competition, Klein International String Competition, Dorothy DeLay Fellowship Competition at the Aspen Music Festival and the Salomé Chamber Orchestra Competition, where she was awarded with a Stradivarius.

Her summer festival engagements include Music@Menlo(International Program and Winter Residency), the Olympic Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival, Taipei Music Academy and Festival, Kneisel Hall, Starling-DeLay Symposium, Mozarteum Summer Academy, and the Young Artist Program in Ottawa.

Angela holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from The Juilliard School, where she studied with Donald Weilerstein and Masao Kawasaki, and assists on Pre-College Violin and Chamber faculty.
