Christoph Franzgrote has been performing with the Met Orchestra since 1991, and is also a member of the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. He was a member of the New Jersey Symphony and Encores! Orchestras, and has served as principal second violinist for the NJSO, Glimmerglass Opera, Encores!, St. Luke’s, and the Mostly Mozart Orchestras, as well as concertmaster for Bel Canto at Caramoor, the Ring cycle at Arizona Opera, and Bernstein’s Wonderful Town on Broadway, among others. He has worked with artists ranging from John Cage and Leonard Bernstein to Yanni and Hootie & the Blowfish. A native of Pasadena, California, he received his BM and MM degrees from the Manhattan School of Music. He lives on the Upper West Side with his wife Ellen, their daughter Clara, and their cats Spackle and Mason. His other passions include rock & roll, photography, and trilobites.
