Yana Levin, Cello Associate

From a tender age, music has been Ms. Levin’s passport to the world.

In 2018, she began her journey with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra as an associate musician, while performing in New York with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, on Broadway, part of the Fingerlakes Chamber Music Festival among other ensembles.

Born into a musical family in the former Soviet Union, Ms. Levin began playing the cello at the age of five under the guidance of her father, Robert Levin.

A winner of numerous competitions, Ms. Levin continued her musical development in Israel when the family immigrated there in 1990. After merely four years in her new home country, Ms. Levin relocated to California to study with Professor Eleonore Schoenfeld. Upon returning to Israel she co-founded the Johannes String Quartet (Aviv Quartet). The quartet participated in competitions and masterclasses under Lord Yehudi Menuhin and the distinguished Amadeus String Quartet.

Ms. Levin furthered her studies in Israel with Mr. Marcel Bergman and Prof. Mikhael Khomitser and in Melbourne, Australia with Mr. David Berlin. Upon completing her studies, Ms. Levin won the cello position with the Israel Opera Orchestra and the first sub position with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, participating in numerous concerts and tours. She also served as principal cellist of the “Orchestre pour la Paix” in Paris, promoting unity through music. Beyond orchestral and operatic repertoire, Ms. Levin cherishes her passion for chamber music having performed with various ensembles.

In 2006, Ms. Levin was one of the founding members of the newly established Opera Orchestra of the “Palau de Les Arts Reina Sofia” in Valencia, Spain. In 2014, after eight seasons with the orchestra she moved to New York and resides in Manhattan with her daughter.
