Shenghua Hu is a renowned violinist and conductor, currently serving as the Second Violin of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York. He is also the director and conductor of The New York Chamber Orchestra, actively performing on stages worldwide. In 2016 -2019, he lead the principal 2nd violin of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. In 2012, He was the position of Assistant Concertmaster of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic and is a First Violinist with the Albany Symphony Orchestra.
His achievements include winning top prizes at prestigious competitions such as the Global Music Awards, GRAMMY Nomination in 2016 for the album “On&Between” and received GRAMMY Award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo with Album 《Corigliano》in Albany Symphony in 2014.
He has been recognized with prizes from Paganini Violin Competition, Sarasate Violin Competition, Gershwin International String Competition, and the Waldo Mayo Violin Competition, Lucille Lortel International Violin Competition and the Hudson String Competition, Staring International Violin Competition and more.
In 2006, Shenghua Hu was granted a full scholarship to the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, where he received tutelage from the internationally acclaimed violinist Kurt Sassmannshaus. He was awarded the prestigious “Starling Foundation” scholarship during his time there. From 2008 to 2015, he pursued advanced studies under the guidance of violin virtuoso Albert Markov, who is a gold medal winner of the Elizabeth Violin Competition.
Shenghua Hu’s musical journey began at an early age. Born in 1986 in Bengbu City, Anhui Province, China, he started learning the violin from his father at the age of 3 and performed on stage by the age of 5. He won the first prize in the junior group at the Anhui Violin Competition. At 9 years old, he astounded the audience with his exquisite performance of Bruch’s Violin Concerto in G Minor, accompanied by the Anhui Symphony Orchestra.
